After chores, snuck out this afternoon for 52 miles. Almost 70 degrees and the daffodils are in bloom here on the MA southcoast!

Cheers,

Rick

I parked my car on a tarp, because I heard about it online, but I tried it just to prevent mud from splashing up on my new wheels and tires when it rains. And yes, this sure does happen.

Then I realized that I still need to fix my exhaust system which hangs rather low. So I laid on my nice new tarp, on the driver's side, and waited until the exhaust cooled, while designing my new exhaust system. The last thing you want is a tarp putting ur car on fire or a tarp melting to your exhaust (you'll be living with that smell for a long time) !!
So finally I'll be getting to the exhaust, she's good up front, she's good in the rear, just the middle is falling apart. My adaptor is currently acting as a bridge, supporting the rear of the front section and the front of the rear section. Ugg.

I installed the passenger seat today. I plan on installing the right door panel, door seal, steering cowling and steering wheel tomorrow. Friday plan on cranking her up and taking a spin around the block.
Saturday it is to reach 70 degrees in Dassel, MN so I plan o laying the new top out on the concrete to warm then install the header. This will be a new endeavor. Any suggestions appreciated.

dickstag,

I just finished installing the usb/voltage readout in my 74. Easy install. Mine even came with a spare fuse. I only had to enlarge the lighter hole a smidge...I used my folding pocket knife to shave the edges of the hole (a little at a time...only took a few minutes. Added spade connectors to their wiring and plugged into existing hot and ground wires. Easy - Peasy.

Enjoy - Stay Safe, David

Very satisfying installing this leather wrap on my wheel. It's over 50 years old and the old cover was kinda ugly. It was also quite skinny. Took a couple hours of sewing but looks 100X better and a lot thicker and easier to grip. I was also tired that everything in this cockpit was black. Very inexpensive though fairly time consuming.

I actually drove my MGB properly today for the first time. I live at 69° North and bought my MGB this winter so it's been waiting for roads to clear up. It's so much fun to drive it compared to modern cars.

The Smith tach really acted up on the drive so I took it out and replaced a broken capacitor inside and then calibrated the RPM.

The foot light switch also stopped working. Turns out the bracket was bent so that it was pointing down a little and this angled it so that my foot touched the connector which loosened the plastic from the metal housing so I had to take that off as well and dimple the tabs down well and remount with a straightened bracket.

The things to fix get smaller and smaller. The choke cable needs a little slack but if too much the ferrule at the forward end can slip out of the receiver tube on the linkage and then the choke won't fully return from fast idle. Fixed that.

I did not drop my left side rear vent window to the ground as I was popping it open. I'm guessing that a failed corner bracket/plate resides in that separated corner of the frame? The front edge of the window suddenly began to drop as it opened. I initially thought that the window was falling from the car. I was much relieved to be able to safely latch it back into place. I don't see indications of the presumably broken part on the few parts diagrams I've had time to check.

New tank arrived from BPNW. The old one was so full of rust that I thought it would be best to get a new one.

Another beautiful spring day, windy but 75F. So I dropped the top for the first time since October. The car is so much quieter without the flapping and whistling of canvas. The exhaust is more mellow, the mechanical and road noise reduced. Just a much better ride topless.

Motorcycles come out this weekend.

Both seats, door panels. 1 door cap, console lid, steering wheel…Next is new top, after new seal arrives and warm weather & sun cooperate.
Took it out for its first drive since last fall. Waiting at Casey’s for Steve to come and pick up some items I don’t need.
