Scott, Ronn is right about throwing money away. You could also opt for a HIFF 44. I did on my rebuilt 79 engine and love it. Fits right on the existing manifold. Not as peppy as the duals on my 79 LE but good. Just a suggestion.

Des - great suggestion on the HIF44. Much simpler conversion.

Summer in NZ about to start this week. The Coromandel Peninsula where we live is covered with Pohutukawa trees just coming into bloom. Great photo op for classic cars.

Thank you for the very kind words! It's a 1972 model - the same year that my wife and I married. The car was actually her choice because it was in such good condition - the colour not so much to her taste! I love blaze orange though, bless her grinning smiley

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for the history. Wow '72. What a coincidence with your wedding year too.
My little green roadster is also a '72, as was my first real car in high school - a Sierra Tan 4 door, luxury liner known as a Buick Electra 225, which weighs twice as much as my B at 4600 pounds of Detroit Steel. Fun times for sure. It, too, had the A.I.R. emissions pump, though with a 455 cu in, 4bbl, it had plenty of torque to spare..
But I digress...
If you're going to be noticed, blaze orange is the way to go. I'm guessing it's not one of the more popular MG colors, and that's what makes it even more unique. It has that race car look.

Just slap a number on it and GO !!!

Hello Dion,

455 cu inches whilst still at school!!! I sincerely hope that it was also a chick magnet, given the cost of filling it up winking smiley . My sole transport as an impoverished student whilst studying at engineering school was a Triumph motorcycle. Definitely not a chick magnet sad smiley .

You're right about the blaze colour being uncommon. There are also shade variations which makes everything a bit more complicated too. My wife wanted British Racing Green but the near-flawless condition of the one we bought was the clincher. A Lotus 7 clone was also a serious consideration but as my wife and I are both in our mid-70's, she didn't think we could enter and exit one with any degree of dignity if people were watching!

All the best for the festive season......

Haha. Very well. I wouldn't call it a chick magnet, but the chicks would call it the Florida Car. Meaning it was so comfortable that it would be nice to take it down to Florida.
I also Armor-All'd the seats, so it was fun to watch the chicks in the back seat slide from side to side, every time I made a turn.
Yes, in high school we were allowed to leave for lunch, so we'd hit McDonald's, Burger King, Pizza place, etc for lunch.
Yes, not much dignity getting out of some of these little cars. The MGB isn't so bad, but I look like I'm breaking OUT of my TR7.
Well, good to meet a fellow engineer. Your wife made the right choice - function over form.
Well, have a wonderful holiday as well, and enjoy the nice weather there. It's not too far from freezing temperatures, here on long Island tonight, but the wind is whippin' from time to time.

Went on a run this weekend with a NZ regional classic car club. The club is spread over a large country area so there are always new people and machinery turning up, which is a real joy. My wife and I were the only MGB GT owners present this time but there was a nicely restored Midget and even better, a "barn find" 1955 MGTF. The TF had been stored in a shed for decades and was in its original "distressed" paintwork but with no rust. It had to go through the recertification process to be allowed on the road and this was its first major outing. It also came with a supercharger which has yet to be refitted. Apparently, it used to be raced successfully decades ago. The other vehicle which turned up was an F100 truck which a retired farmer imported from the US quite a while back and has only just been through the certification process. He also owns several British bikes from the 1920's and a couple of working stationary engines from the 1800's. These people should be national treasures!

Picked my 80 up from paint shop yesterday. Hot Rod black, with gloss black hard top. I spent the day stripping the wheels, and stopped for the day at about 95% of the paint and clearcoat gone from the LE wheels.

Nice! What's the official name of the colour? Mine is Blaze Orange but is a tad lighter than yours. It would seem that although they might have the same name, the tint will vary depending on both year and paint supplier.
