Solved
Anyone else have USAA insurance on their MG and have had trouble getting the digital proof insurance uploaded to Georgia's DOR tag office system (or anywhere for that matter)? I've been dealing with this for over a week. GA says that the problem is USAA. USAA says they are doing everything right and everything matches. I suspect that the 12 digit VIN is causing some problem, but how is it possible that it hasn't come up before and a solution found?

Happened to me with FL. Called USAA and explained the problem and the worked with the State to fix it. I think it had to do with the State system not correctly reading the USAA Policy Number. Once it was fixed it worked OK after that.
Good Luck!

USAA referred me to American Collector's Insurance. They told me that regular auto insurance would only pay out to cover the market cost of my car. Since there really is no market for my car, American Collector's covers my car for the amount I assign to it. The lady I deal with over the phone has a '57 Chevy.

Yes, I now realize that GA has the correct VIN in their system as the 13digits with the G at the end, registered back in 2016 by a previous owner. However when I insured the car 3 months ago I left off the G, and USAA says that the 12-digit VIN is correct according to their validation system. USAA is wrong on this point, and I think if I insist that they redo the insurance policy with the 13 digit VIN then I will finally be able to get a license plate and drive this thing legally.

Ditto on the American Collector Car coverage. We have had USAA on our daily drivers for almost forty years. They referred us to American Collectors for agreed value coverage, which pays the agreed value if the vehicle is totaled. The coverage is much cheaper and guarantees a certain amount of reimbursement if the worst happens to the vehicle. They use Hagerty's price guide for agreed value coverage limits. The Hagerty guide is very generous.
We also found USAA a little lax on motorcycles, since the California DMV insisted my 1970 was a 1971. Once we changed to Progressive, also a USAA partner, we had an issue with the DMV because the bike was titled as a 1971, but Progressive's database insisted the bike was a 1970. It took a while but we now have 1970 title for our 1970 motorcycle.
Neither situation was any fun.

Just for kicks, you might want to get a quote from Hagerty – vintage and collector cars is all they deal with, plus they are generally a lot cheaper than a regular insurance co. and you tell them what the car is worth. BTW – you should try registering a TVR some time – the VIN is 4 digits and 2 letters! For VA for inspection, which needs 18 characters for the VIN, they just add zeros.
