Barney, I'm pretty sure I have a spare brake spring of the kind you just did a "grapes of wrath" on. Let me know if you want me to send it somewhere. You'd probably need to figure out where you'll be in 3 days after I send. Given the holiday, earliest I can send now would be Tuesday.

Had a great visit with Barney.

We just visited in the mountains but got to look over cars and parts in Charlotte. My brother-in-law and I both have ours in his garage working on them. My brother-in-law is still assembling his engine so we didn't have a chance to work on his.
I had what I thought was a slight vibration in mine so we decided to start it and see. Hadn't been started in about 8 months and has only been run for about 2 hours for the break-in after the rebuild. Glad we decided to start it - pretty tight already from sitting. After finding a decent battery and booster it fired off. Seems my vibration is nothing to worry about. Yea!

Barney got busy right away tuning my carbs that I had rebuilt. Only problem was the butterfly on the front carb is a little out of center and won't shut off completely. It was really a treat to see Barney run the car on one carb and tune it.I was definitely taking notes. He set the fast idle on the choke mechanism also. Gave me some good incentive to get that go-kart moving. I'm bending and making my own brake lines from stock and getting a good bubble flare is a real pain - slowing me down - need to find a better flaring tool.

After a couple of hours of shop time we scratched around in the parts and located a brake spring. Barney said he didn't see any need to replace it - he was confident with his repair so he would just keep the spare in the parts bin. It was getting late so we set off to find some supper after which Barney was on his way to Moncks Corner SC and or a campground.

Hopefully we'll be further along with our cars if he gets by to see us again!!!

Eric

Got a replacement brake spring from EricTaylor. Got my computer screen replaced. Got down to Monks Corner SC before turning back north, Since someone asked, we are approaching 3000 miles since leaving home on May 5th. Ain't no flies on this MGA (or on the trailer). Hoping for a little slower cruising, and intend to crawl up the east coast for a while. Any suggestions? See latest pics and trip updates here: http://mgaguru.com/tales/mobile.htm

Change of plans. Going almost straight north at a slower pace. Arrived in Goldsboro, NC, this evening. Expect to be in Richmond, VA, on Wednesday 5/28 for a small car show and club meeting, Also to visit Bruce Woodson's shop to see what he has in process.

You might want to consider going by the Moss Motors location in Petersburg just Southwest of Richmond. Also, ask the club down there if they have a spare 1500 head for me to rebuild!

Had hoped to take my newly resorted A this year (and last for that matter), but things didnt work out, and its only a half restored A (see pic. Agh!). Hopefully get it there next year. Probably will go anyway, since there are ususally a lot of fine Brit cars there, especially Jags. Hope to see you.

I did go to Moss in Petersboro. Also visited Dave Mars in Raleigh, NC, Jim Cheatham in Amelia, NC, the Central Virginia British Car Club, Bruce Woodson in Richmond, VA, Bruce's father-in-law Wally Groom in Powhatan, VA, Paul Crowther and a few other classic car enthusiasts in Palmyra and Lake Monticello Lake Monticello, VA, the Shenandoah Valley British Car Club (from Waynesboro, VA) and Richmond Triumph Register (Richmond, VA) at Zion X-Roads, VA, the the Stonefire Kitchen in Barboursville, VA, Amin Swisse in Herndon, VA, and Bob Krzywicki in Arlington, VA.

Things have been flying here. We have driven over 4000 miles in the past 4 weeks, and have visited almost everyone on the wish list between Maryland and South Carolina (some more than once). Keep up with our daily travel log here: http://mgaguru.com/tales/mobile.htm

Now we are sitting near Frederick, Maryland and we may try to sit still for a day or two. Contemplating moving north into Pennsylvania and farther. We might possibly get well up into Maine, as I came up somewhat short there last time I was in this corner of the country. Anyone want to help spin the compass?

Keep up with the daily progress reports here: http://mgaguru.com/tales/mobile2.htm
