I am in the process of converting my 52 TD without turn signals to one that has turn signals, centered brake lights and a high running light. See attached picture. My plan is to use the industrial magnets on the legs to attach to the top of the fuel tank on the TD so it will be removable. The turn signal toggle switch will be mounted under the dash on the wood section.

Questions

1. Where can I find a wiring diagram for a 52 and 53 TD?

2. On the '53 does the white running lights on the fender flash when the turn signals are selected?

3. Has anyone made emergency flashers for the T series?

Thanks

Joe

1. I think there is a wiring diagram in the shop manual for a TD with turn signals. If not you can find one on line.

2. Yes they flash....but...you have to wire in another wire to it and possibly change the bulb holder inside....I don't recall. It takes an odd two filament bulb that has the lugs in the same position so you have a 50 50 chance when you install the bulb that it may or may not have to be turned 180 degrees.

3, Yes I have on my TF...same wiring will work on a TD but there are other ways to do it. I have attached my wiring diagram for it.

Check out the recent posting on this topic, Declan posted his wiring diagram, and a pic of my dual bulb front sidelight and electronic flasher unit is included also.

I ditched the relay for flashing the brake lights completely on my TD.

Magnetic attachment of a light bar is a great idea, like it.

I have seen a emergency flashing system on the net somewhere, I think it was on “totally t type”, they have a free archive online, it’s got many tech articles. Search TTT.
Cheers
Mike

Totally forgot about the need for a two element bulb. Thanks.

Over the years I have learned that I am a guy who looks to people who are smarter and more knowledgeable then me and have already developed the solution. Some times I have to take two or three items and put them together to solve my issue. Fabrication along with integration for me is much easier then development. That is what I have done in this case.

Years ago I picked up the portable lighting system off of EBay that I thought would be valuable in the future. I made contact with the developer who was a T series guy from Ohio. He no longer made the system. It came with a clunky box which integrated all the fuses, toggle switch, etc.

Since then I found a company Electro-Tech thru a ad in a car magazine. They made a system that was a small box that allowed you to integrate all the wiring of a modern car along with the turn signal switch into legacy cars. Really a super guy to deal with. See picture below.

Thanks for the input.

Come to think of it , you will need a new bulb holder inside the front housing. The original only has one contact for the park lamp and the ones for turn signals have two.
