Went along to the Monthly Yeovil Somerset UK Classic Car Club meet last night at Haselbury Mill .
There were some very interesting cars there although the light made picture taking challenging to say the least.
I talked to a chap standing next to an identical 96 Jaguar XK8 to the car I just sold last week I had to do a double take to see if it wasn't my car.!
It transpired that he was a former Classic Car Racing driver and had raced a huge range of different cars at practically every UK race track ....
Fascinating chat I hope to meet up with him at a future meeting.
There were some extraordinary cars there like the Triumph Spitfire with the Vitesse 6 cyl engine . Absolutely spotlessly clean engine bay restored to new , must have cost tens of thousands of £ pounds.
An original MGB GT V8 Costello conversion. Note where they put the double SU's centre back between the banks. What an elegant solution to avooid the MGC bonnet bulge that the first V8 Works cars had.
Fond memories of my second car a MK1 Ford Consul back in 1969 . Column change 3x speed with a sliding bench front seat . Your passenger could sit sideways on that seat whilst you drove . Vacuum wipers arghhhh.
Several Triumph TR4's the one sports car that evaded me .I test drove one back in 72 but chose to keep my MGB instead..

AJB210T (AKA Bobcat ) now has a new enthusiastic owner .
I shall miss this little car with its big attitude.

An interesting line up, John,
BUT ... If somebody told you that white GT is "An original MGB GT V8 Costello conversion" they were pulling your leg.
PAE 760 M is definitely a factory MGB GT V8. It looks very good too.
( But if you want to be picky, the bonnet liners are missing the cutouts to clear the carburettor tops and the top left part of the radiator )
Memory fades, but I think it was the Costellos that had a bulging ( fibreglass ) bonnet,
probably to clear the carburettors that were towards the centre of the Rover engine.
Jim

No... nobody was trying to pull my leg Jim ........ it was more likely me mis-remembering what was said after 2x hours of nattering to all the different the owners. I'm not at all familiar or particularly interested with the MGB V8's
its a pity you miss the point of my posting in your haste to 'count the rivets' and correct me . it was a great turn out for such a small club and there were some great cars there which hopefully I managed to capture despite it being under trees, in bright sunlight and gone 7pm in the evening .

History of the ken Costello V8 cars from the man himself...although with 50+ year old cars its important to remember that many of those early cars will probably have been modified and had engine transplants etc so documented provenance is everything
