I am restoring a '66 MGB Roadster. Does anybody know the correct routing of the wiring loom as it passes the voltage regulator?
My roadster has been in the family almost all its life and I am 99.9% sure that the wiring is just as it came from the factory. My loom is BELOW the voltage regulator, however I have seen many images of MK1 MGB's that have the wiring loom routed BEHIND the regulator mounting plate.
It would be nice to know how the factory routed the loom. Thanks in advance, Alex.

I can see that the loom on your MGB goes behind the regulator plate. Here's a picture of mine...

My Australian production car's harness runs behind the regulator. I've had the car since it was four years old and I've no reason to presume the wiring was fiddled with before I bought it, and it certainly hasn't been touched since. I've been treating some rust around here, so here's a photo with the regulator folded down. (Some of the grey cloth wrapping disintegrated as I was cleaning around here.)

Could it be that around late 66 the factory moved the loom below the reg? Here's one with the loom below:

Here's a pic from my '67 (built in mid '66) showing the wiring below the regulator.

The mounting bracket for the regulator was changed in 1966(?) and made smaller. Older cars have the harness behind the (larger) bracket, later cars have the harness below the bracket.

Thanks for all your help. For my 'built' 66 car I will run the loom below the regulator. Alex
