It's time to buy another tool. I will soon (1)pull an axle on my 74 B to replace the thrust washers in diff and (2) replace the tranny rear oil seal on my son's 69 BGT.
I want a slide hammer to help with both jobs and I'm sure countless other jobs in the future. In the past, I've gotten by, but now it's time for the right tool for the job.
Any brand recommendations? What kind of attachments will be useful?
One of the best things about doing it yourself is that you need get new tools!!
Thanks for your advice,
WD

So many auto parts places loan these kind of things for free nowadays. Check them out/try them out, then buy the one you like.

You don't need that to pull the axles all you need is two 4" pieces of threaded bar and 2 nuts . After you pull the hubs and brakes off , put them in 2 of the holes across from each other , slip the hub on enough to start the nut , tighten the nuts till the threaded bars are tight against the back of the hub. Then tighten the big nut like you were putting on the hubs and it will pull the bearings and axle right out........Simple !

If you would like to see it done go to Youtube and watch " An MG is Born Episode 3 pt 2 " and see it done.

Pretending to be a normal person day-after-day is exhausting.

If at first you don't Succeed try doing it the way your wife said in the first place!

If you can find one that has a 1/2"-20 threads on the end of it that helps when it comes time to pull the main caps on the engine, you will already be good, no apater needed. I have two slide, one has 1/2-"20 thread one is bigger, like 5/8". From there you can make simple adapters to do lots of MGB thing with, I have made a hub puller, a engine brass galley plug puller, I made a dent puller with chromes accron lug nut and and sheetmetal screw, if you have spoke wheels, you can make seal cap puller. The possibilties are endless, you'll find many uses for it over time, good tool to have around.

Thanks everyone,
I did notice that the costs were pretty high so I may borrow one from my parts store. But I can also imagine that having one in the tool box would be very helpful.

WD, you don't need anything fancy, or expensive, something like this will do just fine.
