V8 Crank case explosion - what's the damage?

I'd completely missed that - but Bruce is right. Do the science. Suppose the 20 PSI shock wave I guessed at earlier. What is the area of your ear drum? (No idea - I'm not a doctor). If we guess at 1/4 sq inch then the force on it was 5 pounds. That's a lot of force for a thin diaphragm. I worry that you broke your ear drums!

Thanks for your concern guys. The 'event' was a couple of weeks ago now. The deafness was just in one ear - the ear nearest the engine - and I'm back to normal now. I do feel lucky that I didn't get the crank case breather in my face / head / eye - that could have been serious. On the other hand my family say 'It's the way he would have wanted to go!'

My brother Dan blew the lifter valley cover off my supercharged 215 Olds engine, the custom oil fill cap bounced off the hood and was never seen again (Vaporized? Why not? ;-) )
On disassembly no explosion related damage was found in the engine.
