Fellow Inmates,
I have a 1963 MGB with the old one speed, square motor. I want to replace it with a similar one. The specs of the broken one are: 57071203, Part# 75467A DR3A 8 62 - 12 Volt.
The re-built ones (that only seem available in the UK) are very expensive (over $200), and on top of that some even charge $100 for shipping and VAT tax.
Will this DR3A that is on E-bay from a Mini work? The only physical difference between this one mine is that the circular facing on mine has a connection of a wire relay showing.
Thanks!

My answer is based on my experience of buying a two-speed motor to replace the single-speed and that is that the gear wheel in the motor controls the sweep IIRC so I suspect this may well be an issue you'll need to consider. Item #8 in the link above.
Mk1: CKD 11/66 first registered 8/5/67; owned since 3/77. 18GB +40 balanced. Peter Burgess BVFR head. Piper 285. 123. FidanzaFW. 4synch c/r box. Superpro. Nut and bolt rebuild 2010 - 2015. Tartan Red.
GT: 12/78. VW Golf guards, flush fit front and rear valances, frenched indicators, Mk1 rear lights - LED lights. 'Worked' Rover V8, Monsoon ECU for EFI. Commodore VSV8 GM4L60E, Lokar tiptronic shifter & Quick4 controller. Vintage Air A/C. FC IFS. CCE 4 link rear. Salisbury with Quaife. Jaguar Storm.

Thanks - so the round part is the gear?
Is the sweep for an early MGB 130'? I take it the one on E-Bay for a Mini would not be suitable then, unless I change the gear. And if I am using the old gear, can I use the newer, 2 speed motor? I heard, however, that there are other issues with trying to use the newer, round motors. Should I just keep looking for an early square MGB Lucas DR3A motor - and where can I find one that isn't $250?

See, here is a nice one, re-conditioned, fits MGB, has the 130' sweep....and it's $219, 30-70 Pounds (which could be $110) to ship.

I have purchased some pretty expensive parts for the MGB restoration, and I think a lot of that is well spent. But, approaching $350 for a wiper motor seems quite excessive.

I have a DR3 in my car....I rebuilt it to replace the single speed (wrong) with this dual-speed unit.
If yours has the park in the cover, you change covers and main gears. The tooth count is the same, diameter the same, the difference for sweep is position of crankpin.
Just be aware you're gonna have to do some re-wire. And a two-speed switch.

I bought the two speed in the link in my previous post as well as the correct gearwheel (look at the difference in the price of the units!) - I also compared the part numbers on Moss-Europe's site for the single speed and two speed and bought those which were different. I'm still in the process of fitting it but the mounting points are different (3 on the single speed and the 'hoop' bracket for the two speed). I made a thin plate that bolts to the original single speed bracket and then a I bolted the two speed 'retainer' to the plate so that it's still in the same position as the single speed (only need the hoop and the rubber pad not the nla metal spacer) - but I'm sure there's other ways to do this. MGEsters have given me advice on wiring and I got the female connector and splades from Autosparks. I also have a Cole-Hersee rotary 2 speed switch (but I may well change this out for an o/e 2 speed toggle).

Great information, thank you Barrie.
You mentioned the Moss Europe site - it reminded me of something. When I pursue E-Bay motors, and look for parts, I sometimes don't find them. Then, a broader Google search has turned up parts on the E-bay UK site (not a motors site, but the general one).
Suddently, all sorts of British car parts turn up over there that the US one does not show.
Not sure if I will go with a 2-speed conversion yet, however, at that E-bay UK site, I found 130 degree sweep MGB gears that I found no where else. Ironic, huh?

Appreciate it Dave.
An interesting site I found is a guy in MA who rebuilds Lucas motors.
http://www.british-car-part-restoration.com/lucas_wiper_motors.html
I don't know if anyone has ever heard of him or used him, but I sent a e-mail last night. He rebuilds other wiper motors as well.
I like his "troubleshoot" tab:

Greg (others) I've posted this link before - it allows you to look at all ebay sites as tho you were going through a catalogue. Once you 'click here' you'll go to a menu and a search box. Ebay UK used to be a whole heap better than it is now as they had a classic car parts dedicated site - now they're just lumped in with the millions of other car parts for sale so it's not as user friendly - that's why I like my link.

Barrie - that is ONE HANDY link - thank you. I will definitely be using that link for the British Ebay MGB parts.
Speaking of E-bay, I am doing my on-line shopping for family and friends. I am on my 3rd hour of the process, going OK. Find most things on Amazon or E-bay. I cannot stand going to the malls, Best Buy, or anywhere else this time of year. You never find what you are looking for, some (not most) shoppers are zoo animals, traffic is tough to deal with, etc. Thank God for on-line shopping.
