I used uBid.com to hire a guy with a trailer to tow my bodyshell. Not too expensive, and quite professional

U haul rent trailers, several sizes available. Reasonably priced too. I personally hate their rental process but they seem to be the only player in town..

My 1958 MGA is not a car, it's a CAREER..!! ... angry smiley angry smiley

Assuming this is not a rolling shell.

Install rear springs and axle. Couple of hours at most.

Call the tow truck and let him know your car is broke down.

Drive home with loose parts in the SUV and wait for the tow truck to arrive.

Send bill to your roadside assistance provider.

This seems to be the preferred method of transport for people who drop their projects off at my place.

Pete

So I will be getting my new hitch for my BMW X3 tomorrow. Next question is what size of trailer will I need to get my rolling shell( wheels/axles are on the car now), engine, tranny, seats/dash, windshield and other odds and ends that normally come with a MGB? Any suggestions as to the best/easiest method of getting the shell and engine on to the trailer?
I will be towing at least 100Km. I plan on building a small wooden dolly /engine stand for the engine. I will likely pick the trailer up at U-haul or Home Depot. Thanks.

A RB MGB is 13 feet long, a CB is slightly shorter. With all the other stuff you probably need at least an 18 ft trailer.
With U Haul that puts you into an auto transport trailer flatbed which would be a lot easier than an enclosed truck. With a truck you might have trouble opening the door after you get the car in.

You will need a tarp to put inside your SUV. That is to keep it clean as you load all of the light and small stuff into the car. Don't forget tie-down straps for the body shell and the engine & transmission. Find a good route on secondary roads and stay off the freeway. Don't forget beer for the refrigerator at home, you will need one or two or more after you get all of that stuff home and unloaded.

Rolling Shell? I just moved my new-to-me GT (no engine) 300 miles using a U-haul Tow Dolly. It is a lot lighter than using a trailer. It might be another option.

Agreed. I've also used a tow dolly like this before. If you are in Stittsville, you can rent a tow dolly from Primo trailer just off Fallowfield near the 416.

Tow dolly sounds doable. Pack the shell full of stuff, put a tarp in the Beemer and load it full of the rest. Easy peasy.

I was addicted to the hokey pokey but I turned myself around.

The problem with doing nothing is not knowing when you’re finished.

Hello Narinda

Standard tandem trailer will adequately meet you requirements.

If shell only; the front can be lifted onto the rear and then the whole can be slid forward.

The detritus can be stowed inside the shell.
