I have seen this subject posted a number of times. “J.B. WELD” Dissolves in GASOLINE. .?? Don’t know, I have never used J.B. Weld. How ever, this is what I use. (See pictures). Three 1/2” Washers bonded together with this Epoxy, and have been in Gasoline for 30 Days so far. .??? It is a lot PRICEY, but if it repairs something that can’t be had. probably worth it. So how long should I wait. ??? confused smiley

Seems you have some epoxy on your cap lock key. Maybe a little gasoline will fix that.

Might be a difference between fast and slow setting epoxies?

[J-B Weld 2110 Metal Fuel Tank Repair Kit]. It does state fuel-resistant not fuel-proof. J-B does sell several related products.

As everyone knows. epoxy is a generic term involving a chemical reaction after combining two substances. Topic question cannot be answered.

Enough Joe, the guy is an occasional user, only 667 posts in 10 years. Bad form on your part for calling him out.

I used J B Weld on a leaking fuel line fitting on the gas tank several years ago. It hasn't leaked since.

I have used JB weld in an effort to patch a pinhole in a MGB gastank. Did not work for whatever reason. I have also had other epoxy start peeling up at the edges when used in gasoline service.

I would suggest that Epoxy will not adhere well to a very smooth surface. Needs a 'key'.

As far as the cap lock issue goes, please consult rule 3 of the general forum rules.

As far as epoxy and gasoline goes, there are better products to use for fuel leaks.
Seal All would be one.

The only thing I've seen that really resists gasoline over a long period of time is a product called Seal-All.
http://eclecticproducts.com/seal-all.html

Many years ago a young woman came into the service station where I worked - the mechanics had gone home for the day. She had backed into something (concrete barrier?) and knocked a small hole in the gas tank. It was dripping steadily. Aside from the obvious danger, she lived out of town and was afraid she would run out of gas before she got home. I ran the car up on the hoist (which I probably wasn't supposed to do because I was just a pump jockey) and proceeded to slather Seal-All on the dripping tank. It sealed.

The only problem was that I had Seal-All all over my hands. I never found any solvent that would touch it. It took two weeks for the Seal-All to completely peel off my hands. I looked like I had leprosy or was a lizard losing its skin. But as far as we know the gal made it home safe and sound.
