To anyone living in melbourne... i know a few of you who post here do - Can you provide a recommendation for a good MG Mechanic close to St Kilda?

The closest I have found are:

Pickards of Melbourne (10km)
MGB hive (30km)
MG Workshops (40km)

Any thoughts on Pickards as they are the closest to my work and home?

Cappy,

No personal experience with either Pickards or MG Hive but a call to the MG CC Vic may find someone there who has.

I have used MG Workshops and found them to be very good value and competent as well. They know their stuff and are also very helpful if you need parts and are doing your own repairs.

There is also Plus Four Automotive Service in 22 Dingley Ave Dandenong.
Phone: 9791 8777. Fax: 9794 5658.
Not exactly next door to you either but also know their stuff.

HTH , Pete.

Hi,I live in Elwood.
MG workshops, out by Monash Uni'. Andrew McDowell runs it and is a thoughly good guy. Usualy the best value around and really knows what he is doing. I usually call him first, then the others to compare.

Neal at plus four might be worth a try, I got my steering wheel boss and 22mm antisway bar from him. he's very much into building race car MGB's. He certainly knows what he is about and is very inovative, supercharged V8's etc.
Ballingall motors out near LaTrobe Uni', nice people. Good for those hard to get bits and pieces. I got a NEW centre consol there, 2.8 steering rack, plus locking US petrol cap and numberous other bits and pieces.

Pickards I've dealt with them on two occasions and won't ever be going back.

thanks for the heads up guys - andrew did my pre purchase inspection and was a legend - i really wish they were still in north road - just a bit of a hike from where i live to get up there and back.. i'd be at his place every day having something worked on.

went to pickards today and got two new batteries.. expensive things those 6 volts!

umm.. fancy sharing your experience with pickards via email for my educational purposes as i am new to the car?

seems plus 4 and mg workshops are the go..

PS - Your around the corner... right address and phone number for when my little one fails on me!

winking smiley
