Is there some sort of cheap I-Phone app that we could use to measure 0 - 60 times for our various cars? Instead of quoting original specs as representing cars that are no longer original, we could have some sort of comparison. Of course, finding a good spot to do a safe, legal run up to 60 might take some time. cool smiley

I'm curious...because my car (being a 1977 RB with only minor mods)...is likely very slow. But I really don't know how slow in comparison to other MGBs.

Would that be fun?...

I don't want to know. I do know that my 80 MGB is not nearly as fast as my modified Mustang GT.

Ha.. Yes, I have attempted to come up with a number for my own car a couple of times. I realized that it wasn't possible to do this easily with a stopwatch. Too busy driving to have any accuracy starting and stopping the timing device. Also, I'm not really certain that my speedo is accurate in any case.

While I'm curious. I'm not $500 curious to buy some of the REAL gadgets to do this stuff.

I would use a stopwatch and a GPS unit. My portable GPS has a speed indication that seems to be very accurate. You should be able to get accuracy within a couple of tenths of a second. You can average out several runs.

The GPS speedos from Speedhut have a 0-60 and 1/4 mile timer, or the metric equivalent 0-100k and 400m works great. The B was fast enough in its day and two gear changes take time, but a warmed one can still be pretty quick. Denis

Finished and going well, great to drive and quick. Now has a nice 3.23 LSD.

Acceleration for my '80 would be best expressed in furlongs per fortnight per fortnight. Grin!

Cheers,
Brian

I like the hour glass line. I can't remember where I heard it but they said that the car was so slow you could time it with a sun dial. I think they were talking about a Citroen CV2.

0-60 times depend a lot on how badly you want to treat the clutch and drive train for the launch.

"Drive it like you stole it" means you don't care what breaks, just pedal to the metal. That's stupid.

So a ??? launch? (what's that, I dunno. the magazines then had their own standards)

I tried it once, off gravel, and got about 14 something and didn't side step the clutch but tossed lots of small rocks.

So what. Want faster? Get a Kia Rio.<G>

Slower than a raging mother in an average modern mini van full of kids.

My 67 will get to 60 just under 8 though with a lighter driver and one who doesn't have to fix it if something breaks could easily shave a second off.

All this negativity about Bs being so slow ... eye rolling smiley

@ 1800 mi on my B's tweaked motor I'm not yet about to subject it to 0-60 runs, but it's sure holding its own stoplight to stoplight now; noticeably zippier than pre - overhaul (of course it was tired then lol)
