Anyone know of a paint stripper that works as advertised? Maybe something that contains methylene chloride and causes cancer the moment that you cross over the border between Arizona and California. Perhaps something only available on-line, shipped via UPS ground, and far from the prying eyes of the Federales? I have a big job ahead of me and can't really successfully sand the paint off, stripper is required. Thanks—

Hi Rob,
My son says this stuff is really good, Pro Form PF 747 Aircraft Paint Stripper. It states it is fast acting, but your are supposed to key the paint surface with 80 grit paper first.
Of course, use in well ventilated area.
Regards,
Paul

My Painter uses this stuff and it really does work well. Brush it on in one direction only, cover with plastic, wait 45 to 60 min., open plastic and scrape paint goo onto it.

Rob.
I did a post on paint stripper being take off the market due to the danger of methylene chloride. Sept 3 2019 "Being Taken off the Market" (people using it in a contained space and dying).
Save your money the stuff made for stripping is about useless compared to what it once was. If you have the lacquer MGA paint on the car you can take it off with a rag and lacquer thinner.
Since the posting NAPA part# MSRKSGAR343 and KBS Strip Paint Remover 19500 Summit Racing no longer has the methylen chloride in it.
I copied and past my post:
I'm in the process of stripping the paint off my doors, deck lid, and bonnet (which are aluminum) on my MGA. I ran into problems with the paint strippers now on the market. The strippers that are over the counter do not have any methylen chloride in it. The stuff is useless. After spending a lot of time trying to find it I did a posting about trying to find a paint stripper that was just as good as I use to use. I got 2 results, Jim Cheatham (NAPA part# MSRKSGAR343) and Douglas Lawson (KBS Strip Paint Remover 19500 Summit Racing) These 2 have Methylene Chloride in it. MC is what strips the paint.
To check to make sure the paint stripper had MC in it I call the manufacture. I was told by the manufacturer that as of October NO ONE WILL BE PRODUCING ANY PAINT STRIPPER WITH METHYLENE CHLORIDE .
So if you plan on stripping paint I suggest you order before MC is off the market for good.

Paul, I'll search for some of the Pro Form PF 747 Aircraft Paint Stripper and give it a try and a hope. I picked up another brand of Aircraft Stripper that claims to work if left on the surface for 45 minutes, but after ten minutes or so it's pretty much evaporated away. Kinda useless. I tried covering it with plastic wrap but the wrap just melted into it and formed a hard skin that took a hammer and putty knife to remove. I feel as though this is an end to being able to totally strip a car using chemicals . . . THANKS California ! !

x2 on Aircraft Stripper - I used it on mine and the paint bubbled off quickly enough to watch in real time. It's not hugely effective on bondo though, so I had to use a putty knife to help lift that stuff.
Any by the way, that stuff is pretty flammable - I found this out the hard way

Yes there has been. By the Federal Government. That was in my posting. I've used the stuff for many years and now what they are passing off as a stripper SUCKS.
It's a shame that some people are so dumb they can not read a warning label or directions on products. Then it is removed for the safety of others. I'll really miss the stuff. Thank goodness I bought a gal before it went off the market. KI will use it later down the line.

I just purchased some stripper at Lowes that is a paste/liquid and it worked pretty well. The stuff I got from Eastwood is no longer available (I bought it perhaps three years ago). Lowes was out of the gallon can for JASCO premium paint stripper, but they did have a spray can. Since I only needed to do the gas tank side panels on a MG TC, it was enough. I sprayed it on and within 10 minutes the paint was bubbling up and I was able to scrape it away. It did take a couple sprays for some of the underlying primer, but that all came off as well.
