Anyone here ever buy this kit from "A-Series" in the UK? Thoughts on the quality and usefulness of having such an all-in-one kit?

Man that looks like a nice kit. $238US doesn't seem like a bad deal.

I am pleased you are finding the restoration set.
Usually for our restoration sets we go off our own workshop findings and then match that up to the archive files we have, however with the MGA we have not have the pleasure of having one in our workshop, so we used 3 private restorers and archive files... over the years we have tweaked it slightly with customer feedback.
If any of you have any questions please send me a direct message as i do not want to take over the topic.

I will mention that the 5/8 and 7/8 lengths in the restoration set. smiling smiley

Have a great day guys!

If you have your original nuts and bolts just get them zinc plated. I pay AU$110 for half a bucket full.

I didn't buy the restoration kit but I did buy two boxes of assorted 1/4 and 5/16 fastenings from A-Series Spares. The quality was excellent, I would recommend.

Cheers

I bought enough nuts and bolts from Todd Clarke to buy him a bigger boat or two..

Most frustrating thing about the kit is that you don't know what's in it! 1500 pieces, over 90% of the standard fixings, but what's the other 9+% and how many non-standard fixings are still needed after that? I can understand some fasteners are changed and replace the original type, but it would be nice to know what was in the box before you have to buy it!

I cleaned up everything I could and had them replated too. I had measured each and every bolt wrote down size, length and head markings and where they had went. Also sent in all outer control cable housings, gauge housings even the air cleaner screens and gas filler. Sadly I cannot find it at the moment,I'm sure it could help someone. At the time mid 80's, I had them cadmium plated- a dollar a pound minimum 50 lbs.

Like Andrew I had my hardware re-plated. I was concerned about the hardware getting lost in the mail so I drove it to Star Plating in New Bedford, MA. We dropped it off one day and did some tourist things in historic New Bedford. Spent the night in a great B&B and picked the parts up the next day. Cost was about $100 for all the hardware and a bunch of other stuff I threw in the pail too. It all came out great. The owner is a car guy himself and I highly recommend him.

there are a few substitutes in the set where we have the correct thread but we have not have the correct head type remanufactured yet. These are instances where where slotted or cross head screws were substituted for Allen drove however in recent months we have had the correct slotted and cross heads remade so most of the hardware is now present and correct!

With regards to re using the original hardware. For many applications in the vehicle you will be OK but it is worth noting that the strength of bolt used in most applications on the vehicle will start to suffer from fatigue especially safety critical hardware such as steering and suspension. It is also recommended that a Grade R or S (SAE 5) bolt should only be tightened to its maximum torque 3 times and then changed. As I say for wing (fender) bolts and other body fixings you should be fine but for engine mounts, suspension, steering and drivetrain I would certainly replace. We always use SAE 8 (T) grade for those applications.

If you have any questions please. Chat to us on live chat on the website or drop us a direct message on here :-)

Have a great day.

I bought that kit. It saved me from searching for bolts. Made the rebuild go faster.
I ended up with extra parts. I felt it was worth always having parts on hand. It's pretty frustrating when you want to get something done and are missing a few bolts. Some of the bolts didn't seem quite correct, maybe a little long as I recall. Looks like they added grommets from when I bought it.
