Newbie question for ya. Someone is selling a 56 MGA in my area. While inspecting the car I noticed the trunk and fenders are made of this "robin-egg" material. (pic attached) I'm assuming its a body kit. Something to avoid? Any thoughts?

It looks like someone has sprayed fiberglass over the metal. If that's what it is, its probably covering severe rust. Crawl underneath and see if the trunk floor looks like swiss cheese. Also, run a magnet over the trunk and fenders to see if they are metal or fiberglass. I know some replacement fenders were made of fiberglass but I've never heard of trunk repair panels made of anything but metal.

Fiberglass fenders will seriously drop the value of the car. If the trunk is completely replaced with fiberglass, walk away unless you're prepared for a lot of work.

Might just be fleck paint. Do as Larry says and check out the underside.

you can buy multicolored flecked "trunk" paint from several suppliers at your local car part shop - looks like that is what this is to me.

I think Gary and Jim have nailed it, it does look like textured paint. You still need to check for rust, there's a reason that was sprayed on.
