Went to see the new “Ford vs Ferrari” movie tonight. There were 2 MGAs in the first five minutes of the movie! Very cool!

Great car movie! I wondered before hand if Matt Damon could pull off the role of Carrol Shelby but I thought he did a decent job. Go see it if you get a chance.

Matt Damon is a fine actor and an extremely bright mind.

I've yet to watch the film but I am happy that the movie was
made at all. Young people today don't understand the significance
of the automobile to the baby boomers.

Automobile design, along with fashion, art, music and politics
helped cultivate and extenuate American culture from post WWII
thru the 80's.

We have tickets to go tonight. I will be looking for those MGAs.
Ferrari is nothing special. Ford kicked their @$$ just to prove a point. Then quit to let the little pecker squad back in. Ferrari is for a bunch of rich guys trying to impress each other. With the engineering talent at Ford or Chevrolet either company could build a better car but it would not sell. VW had to buy the Bugatti name to sell their Veyron.

Yes two MGAs were prominent early in the movie. Loved the movie. We went with another couple last night and as we left my wife commented on the high level of testosterone in the theater.
The movie documents the genesis and development of the Ford GT40 and the first win of the 24 hours of Le Mans. Barely mentioning their domination, winning the next 3 races at Le Mans, and the subsequent termination of Ford’s participation.
After winning 4 years straight Ford had proved it’s point and “took it’s ball and went home”

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie! A couple of high school students saw me there (I substitute teach at their school) and they were commenting on the movie as to how cool the cars were back then. I smiled and asked them if they remembered the car that the "bozo" didn't know how to drive properly and their eyes bugged out when I winked and told them I had one! Heh heh… frosting on the cake! thumbs upgrinning smiley

I think this film is called LeMans 66 over here in UK - I saw a TV trailer with the red MGA up on the garage ramp.

I loved it, so did my wife. Two of my club members have GT40s (the 'correct' ones) and a few varieties of the Cobra and every time we see them, I explain to my wife the importance of these cars in automotive and racing history. The movie puts faces, names, can-do spirit and human relationships in context. She had no idea why racing was so important in the past century and was glad I asked her to see it.

Based on the above comments, we went last night to see Ford vs. Ferrari and the 2.5 hr. movie passed as fast as it took Ken Miles to do one lap at Le Mans; talk about not knowing where the time went. Only complaint I have is that the red A on the lift was missing its sill finishing strip!smiling bouncing smiley

Nick, I'm told by an expert that the early cars didn't have the finishing strip.??

If you liked the movie FORD vs. FERRARI, you'll really enjoy the new documentary SHELBY AMERICAN. Its out on Netflix and tells the real story of Carroll Shelby's life, from childhood through Shelby American fame. Lots of archival footage as well as current interviews with those in the know, and this include the events covered in the FORD vs. FERRARI movie; here's a clip:
