Folks,

I almost made an order to VB for 2 sport knock-off wheels and a MGA windscreen, but missed the VB deadline (about November 2020?). So looked at Moss, who happens to be about 2X the prices of VB for the wheels and windscreen.

A friend told me to look at David Manners Group in England. It's hard to believe that the 2 wheels (15"x5.5" sport Minator knock-offs)(192 GBP each) and the windscreen (66 GBP) with windscreen packaging (15 GBP) can be purchased with carriage (236 GBP) and VAT (140 GBP) = 841 GBP or $1161. Incredibly, this total still beats (betters) the Moss total of $1500 (inc state gross receipts tax). And shipping is pretty fast (not by boat anymore).

The difference is $340, not a trivial amount. I'm tempted to place the order, but was wondering if anyone has had any misgivings about ordering from abroad, or this source in particular.

Thanks for any input.

Happy 4th!
Tyler

If you're looking for Minilite style knock off wheels, there's a US company that makes them. Call or email and I'll get you a price - excellent quality and quick shipping for a good price :-) Basil 707.762.0974 basiladams@yahoo.com

Tyler,

I've ordered from varies companies from oversea and found them very reliable. You state in your post about the VAT cost. You do not pay VAT because your out of the country. Which will cut down on your cost even more. (UK government took pity on us due to the fact they make more money then us. spinning smiley sticking its tongue out)

I would be wary about ordering a windshield from over seas. Windshields have a rather high breakage rate. If your windshield arrives broken the David Manners Group isn't responsible, it wasn't broken when they sent it. You'd have to make a claim with the shipping company. Even if you were successful, it could take months to get your money and you still don't have a windshield.

I would check with the local glass outlets and see if they can get one. It may cost a few bucks more but could turn out cheaper, and quicker, than going overseas.

Just my thoughts.

save yourself headaches and just get one from known suppers here.. Moss sell original manufacturer glass from UK.. Unsure about Scarborough fair..But Id think they likely have the right glass.. some of the reproductions that Moss sold in the past were thinner and they supplied a thicker glass to frame seal to compensate.. the originals cost a little more, but given the pain in the ass nature of replacing the windshield glass.. Its well worth paying a little more for the one that actually fits without busting a blood vessel in frustration.. ..
