Im in the process of de-bumperizing my rubber bumper 1977 Midget. Once you get the front bumper off, the first thing you notice are two gaping holes in the fenders right in the spot where the indicators would be on a chrome bumper midget.

From searching through the posts here, it looks like the holes have to be filled in and then re-cut to accept the indicator lights.

My question is, would it be possible to use a set of reverse lights up there? I mean the clear lense little square ones. Im assuming that basically any light could be used as a blinker, or am i way off?

Any lamp could be used as a blinker, but the front turn signals are also running lamps and are fitted with dual element bulbs which the reverse lamps won't accomodate. In addition the reverse lamps are an unusual design where the lens is on one side of the panel and the lamp and housing is on the other, so the cutout in the panel has to be pretty exact. As long as you're going to have to do sheet metal work and fill the original holes how about something like the lamps used on the early Mustangs? Available from repro sources and would look pretty sleek, similar to the ones used on Dan Master's BGT. http://www.britishv8.org/MG/DanMasters.htm

Or "bullet" indicators like on '69 and earlier Karman Ghias!

Or you could eliminate them all together and use the streetrod headlights that have the LED turn signals/parking lamps built into the unit.

Oooh, yeah! get those repro tri-pod units and just drill another hole in the bottom for a "modern" indicator socket (one of those that's always such a pain to get out!).

Thats an interesting idea. Those mustang lights are pretty cool too. I guess I've got a lot of choices...but I've got all winter to decide!
