Can anyone tell me how to remove the amber glass cover over the light bulb?

Appears to be held by a metal clip but not obvious how you release it.

On a 74 (US spec) there should be screws on either side of the trim ring. Then, removed, you'll find a rubber gasket which cushions the trim, also "traps" the lens. Wiggle the lens and it should come free. That is unless the material has deteriorated over the years and fused to the front fender. At first I thought you might be talking about the glass beehive lenses used on Frogeyes and Sprites.

Side markers (American-speak) are held on with one screw, and there is a tab on the amber lens which is captured by the metal base.

Would a flat blade screwdriver work?

Not sure where to pry, should I be prying the metal tabs away from the glass beehive? I assume that when refitting pushing on the beehive will spread the metal tabs?

OK... These are NOT used in USA spec cars so there will be some incorrect advise given. On UK and some other countries, the front glass lens is a dual focus type and is clear with 2 bulb holders. One bulb is for the clear parking/running lights. The other bulb is for turn signal, and it has a small amber coloured dome over the bulb. That's what the OP is wanting info on removing.

I have never experienced an issue removing that dome lens.

For reference, the lamp model is Lucas L584 the amber dome lens is Lucas 576286 You should be able to find pictures of both

Roger, like Nick mentions, it is nice for everyone if you enter the year of your car in your profile. That way we could see straight away the year in every post you make. Much better than having to hunt for the year of your car. Go into your profile and select the year of your car which will be in your post from then on. It's one time and your are finished.

Are we talking about beehive lenses like on the Bugeyes?

Peter,

Yes I am talking about beehive lenses

I'm trying to find best way of removing to replace the bulbs with LED's

Given they are glass don't want to finish up breaking them.

Roger,

If they are this type of lens simply use a small flat screwdriver to pull back the rubber on the outer edge of the chrome ring. Slowly work your way around the lens until you can remove the ring.

Roger, a photo of the front of his car would help. Even on the UK Spridgets, I thought the addition of a second socket held a lamp but not another lens (??). And I thought glass had gone away by 1974. Perhaps someone customized the front of your car?
