radiator fins

I'm still working on my 76 mgb barn find and notice the fins in the radiator appear to be separated about a third of the way across from the left side. I first thought there is a problem but on closer inspection it appears the radiator was made this way. Why were these radiators construction like this. I did a search but no discussion on this.

Without a photo... a guess would be that section may be a separate oil cooler.
Additional connections beyond block cooling hoses will be present.
Long shot, but as stated... a guess.
Again... photos!!

Thanks, I'll post photos tomorrow. I did a net search and found a similar radiator so this isnt a one off.
