I am suprised that no one, if I remember correctly, has mentioned that the Moss latch shim 1/16" Pn 401-170 to be used not only to shim the latch, but to also to keep the 4 cornered latch insert firmly in place with the handle.

I disassembled the drivers side door latch assembly for inspection, cleaning & repairing. It was a mess, the handle was bent and twisted also the "dead bolt" due to wear, was loose in the latch housing. I straightened the handle and prick punched (peened) the square sides the dead bolt for a perfect fit in the latch housing.
Then, with all of the old & hard grease and dirt cleaned the housing and lubricated it with Wurth HKSS. When reassembled the handle was flat with the 4 cornered insert and the top slot of the housing.
Then to tighten up the handle to the 4 cornered insert I also prick punched (peened) both the handle and the insert for an interference fit.
Next, as the insert was Proud or above the handle I pressed fit an aluminum flat washer onto the assembly.
Next was, as the handle and the latch do not line up perfectly, after installing I dressed (filled) the insert & handle untill the handle wobbled a bit in the latch insert so that the misalignment will not cause undue friction after installation.
Lastly, when installed I will press fit the internal star washers over the handle to help hold the assembly together.

Len, when I was in business, I considered Wurth products and tools to be of very high quality.
Your lock looks very damaged above the strike plate.
I have one that is cracked and by locking it firmly, there has never been a problem.
Sincerely, Thierry from Ardèche, South of France
