i have a 948 with a 40 over cylinder bore and i want to mount twin modern motorcycle carbs...
Why?...
In 1974 when I was 18, I passed on buying a running and driving 1966 Jaguar E-Type coupe for $1,500, which is what they were selling for at the time.
Fifty years later, I'm still kicking myself...

Very few motorcycles have carbs now. As was mentioned, why? You prob won't get as much power with non-OEM carbs as you would with tuned OEM carbs. You don't have but 40 some HP so why waste it? To get the max power for the BE, follow tune up specs as in the manual!!
about 2 weeks and 1 day later...

Check with John Parker at http://www.v-performance.com/
I bought his 42mm Mikuni HSR kit for my 76 Midget 1500. I don't know if he's done a 948, but he specializes in Mikuni conversions for cars. He's done a lot of Triumphs.

I was at a friends Harley shop the other day and he is building a 104ci Harley with twin Mikunis. Extremely fast bike.
He runs an SU on his own “Gasser” and loves it. The bike version is popular on Harleys.
Why reinvent the wheel, SUs work well.

SU HS2's. Oh wait, they are not motorcycle carbs. They are about the best though.
Yep, no reason to reinvent the wheel, the twin HS2 are simple, easy to rebuild, and work great.
