Obviously, this person really does not know what is an MG.
I bet a broker or just someone selling it for someone else
Oil leak?? What oil leak? That puddle under the car is just sweat from all that horsepower!!

If someone searches "Miata" this will come up. If they search MGB this will come up. Our cars are at least 44 years old at this point. Someone might see the small thumbnail on CL and not know what they are looking at. I don't have a problem with this listing title.

I understand the 'insult'; the Brits only have themselves to blame. They had a niche market and lost it to Japan. Not just MG but the whole BMC cabal.
as did the US of A Big Three automakers.
That car looks a fair deal, who cares if the seller hasn't got a clue.

Tom,
Sadly you are right, there are many stories about the MG Factory and the management of British Leyland who made some awful decisions appertaining to the future of the MG brand. Sir Michael Edwardes was the CEO of the BL Group and he was responsible for closing down the MG brand in favour of Triumph.
What a joke, Abingdon had a non-militant workforce and the best Trade Union relations, at a time when the automotive industry was riddled with strike action over pay and conditions. MG was seriously underfunded and towards the end of production it was difficult to obtain engines and trim for the cars, hence the car was not able to keep up with current clean air legislation, especially when the American specifications were introduced to absorb a 5 mph impact and stricter emissions controls. Mazda also had an impact on the MG sales in the USA. The MX-5 was a strong contender and taking more sales from MG making matters go from bad to worse for the MG Brand. - Oops!, no it didn't take sales from the MGB. See my later post which clears up my confusion with the MG RV8 and the MX-5
All this was the kiss of death for the MG marque. Sir Michael Edwardes later admitted that the worst decision he made in all of his tenure as the CEO was to strip MG of financial investment and close the MG Factory at Abingdon.

True but the management at BMC made several mistakes with Triumphs and cancelled the MGB in 80 with some limited models afterwards. Alfa continued on until early 90’s without major changes. V8 B was the answer but again management miss the boat.

The Miata (MX5) came out as a '90 model,so there's
no way it took away sales from MGs.

Hi Doug,
Good point and you are right. I got ahead of myself and I was simultaneously thinking about the British Motor Heritage company.
Subsequent to the launch of the Mazda MX-5 in 1989, British Motor Heritage (then owned by Rover Group) placed the MGB bodyshell back in production to serve the MGB restoration market.
The success of the MX-5 had given Rover confidence that the market for 2-seater roadsters had re-emerged, and the decision was taken in 1991 to create an updated MGB model.
The MG RV8 debuted at the British International Motor Show in October 1992.
Hopefully, this explains my moment of confusion...
