While waiting on the fuel system to cool enough to start yesterday, noticed that the wiper stalk moves forward to a detent, similar to the high beam position on the blinker stalk.
Does this serve any purpose? I do find that having it in the forward position helps with inadvertently hitting the wipers on occasion.

On my '71, the wiper stalk does the same thing.
I've read that the same wiper switch was used on Midgets that was used on MGB's for switching the optional overdrive unit on/off.
Since no Midgets ever came with overdrive, that's just an unused function on our cars.
Seems like a good place to put a fuel pump or ignition kill switch. Like the old saying goes - "Hiding in plain sight."

In 1974 when I was 18, I passed on buying a running and driving 1966 E-Type coupe for $1,500, which is what they were selling for at the time.
Fifty years later, I'm still kicking myself...

That switch was used for the optional passenger ejection seat.

That unused switch is good for all kinds of things.
I previously used it as a manual override for an electric fan
I now use it for my spitfire OD as it was intended
Friend of mine uses it on their nonOD mgb for driving lights
