I am in the finishing process of my triple SU conversion. Everything works as expected, but I am struggling to get a decent idle and mixture. At the moment I have Bad needles and yellow springs in the carbs, but the needles seem to be too rich and the springs too strong.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Joern,

I'm probably not much help as I don't have my car running yet, but I'm starting out with TW needles.

Also, have you checked out Mintylamb's SU needle inter active comparison chart yet? It's pretty handy at http://www.mintylamb.co.uk/suneedle/

Bill

Edit, in the screen shot BAD needles are Red, TW is Orange and the standard ST needles is the yellow graph.

Have to look through my paperwork, but I think it was SM.

Thanks for your input, I just ordered a set of C1-needles for my carbs. For the time being I managed to tune the carbs with the BAD-needles and get the car running quite satisfactory. I only could drive a short round in workshop area because I need to get some fuel first :-)
Car idles Ok, takeoff is easy, even in 2nd gear from standstill with minimal revs and no juddering or choking at all.

On the 123-app you can also see the ingition advance while revving the engine

Sorry, not a big help as I don't need much idle on my big Healey racer. I have a huge library of SU needles that I'm able fine tune with as I make improvements and upgrades on my 3 liter power plant with.

When I was choosing needles for the triple carbs, I did it by comparing similar engines in this case the Triumph 2 litre - it has a similar bore and stroke ratio to the MGC (83mm x 92 mm. vs. 83.4 x 89 mm and neither uses siamesed ports. The stock needle for the Triumph was SM and when I used those in the triple carb MGC they fell within easy tuning range based on doing a few clean cuts at speed (on deserted highways early in the morning).
