Timing Cover Breather

Is it advisable to remove the packing material s.o.s pad thingy from the timing cover for better breathing or leave it in there? I've got the fuel pump breather as well as the valve cover vented. I've got it off now for resealing so now would be the time to remove it if that will help with crankcase pressure.

Yes, we are running a catch can. Cool, I'll remove it and see how it goes. I know that when they fall to the bottom of the can they will pull oil out and create a crop duster scenario. I'd like to avoid that.
I never had hardly anything in my catch can with mesh and wire clip removed on racing Spridget and the full prep SCCA 1275 was shifted at 8100 rpms every shift, the SCCA limited prep 1275 shifted at 7000-7200 rpm because that is where they quit making power.
