Hi MG enthusiast's,
Are these mirrors original equipment for a 72 MGB?..They are spring loaded and can twist 360 degrees.

Those look to be original, check here:- https://mossmotors.com/mgb-073-interior-and-exterior-mirrors. Look like #27 or #29.

You have a 68-71 OE mirror. 72-and early 73 uses a similar appearing, but different stem with an offset and more rectangular head.

I believe that's an aftermarket Tex mirror, mounts with two sheet metal screws while the original needed one big hole. I have used these mirrors for years, and they've provided good service. The spring-back mechanism eliminates/reduces damage if it's bumped. A pic of my Tex on the passenger side below.

Does anyone know if the bolt pattern for the bullet mirror (#40) matches the bolt pattern for #29? DPO installed the bullet mirror and I would like to remove them and replace with the 68-71 mirror (#29).

I made this change on my Triumphs. The bullet mirrors' field of view was too narrow, and I changed to rectangular ones for safety. The holes did not quite match, but I just drilled one new one, and the new mirror base covered the old holes.

I believe Tex was the OE supplier of side mirrors

I believe the 68-71 original Tex door mirrors were mounted through a big hole (1/2" maybe) and tightened from inside the door skin. The current Tex mirrors are mounted from outside with two small sheet metal screws, no big hole needed. Maybe someone who has those original Tex door mirrors can confirm how they're mounted.

I think I've figured it out. The original Tex mirrors needed a 1/2" hole for the tension spring, the repro Tex mirrors have the tension spring inside the mount, and mount flat without the 1/2 " hole.

No, that's a driver's side center head swan neck Tex from 68 to 71. No passenger side mirror ever existed on these cars, usually accommodated by a fender mirror made by Uro. Offset Tex mirrors were on 72-73s. Reproductions and originals all had 1.5" mounting holes and a clearance hole for the .400 tension spring. Flush mounted repro's springs will fit any non-original door. Your side vent window will hit the swan neck stem with this mod. in your first picture.

Just to confirm, my '71, originally delivered to California, had an original Tex mirror on the driver's side, and I installed a new Tex convex mirror on the passenger side. My wife helped me position it so that it provided good visibility, and cleared the vent window. Works well for me. The two mirrors are similar, but not identical.
