Hello everyone, I have a problem with my remote control (MG TF 2004). I have replaced the battery and now it sometimes works and sometimes not. I have unlocked the car with the key and pressed the lock button 5 times in a row to synchronise. I have also cleaned the contacts to the battery in the key and bent them a little to get better contact. I have also changed the plantine of the second key but always the same. It works several times in a row and at some point no longer works. One day later the remote control works again without me having done anything. What could this be?

Best regards
Tommy

Tommy, you might find more response on the Facebook page “MGF and TF Fix” though I’m sure folks here will also help

Since your TF has the later Pektron SCU security system, it might be a relay issue. I'd contact Paul Brown

I had similar issues with my key fobs for my 2015 Jeep grand Cherokee. At times, could not lock and unlock, open or close rear hatch, and the range was very very short if I was able to use the fob’s functions!

Changed the fob batteries to new name brand 2032 batteries, no improvements.
BTW I find that the cheap 2032 batteries from Amazon don’t last very long.

Turns out the 12v car battery was not up to full condition due to its old age (8 years). It started the engine no problem and there was no issues apparent to a weak battery. It’s a very large H7, 880 cca battery!

Once I replaced the car battery the fobs worked perfectly!! The old battery must have lessened the effectiveness and sensitivity and range of the remote control receiver in the vehicle!

So I avoided the crazy high cost of replacing the key fobs which were fine functionally.

When I measured the old battery voltage when it was out if the car (in Jeep GC battery compartment is under passenger front seat), it measured 12.3v!! That’s a symptom of a battery getting bad.
A good battery would measure at 12.5v.
So try to check you car’s battery first
My factory Mopar battery life was longer than average, an exception. Most batteries last about 3 to 5 years!

Thank you @Mark Jones, i contact Paul Brown :-)

@Robert P: Before i change the remote control battery, it works without any problems. I replace the key with two different batterys from Varta and Duracell and the 12V battery is a new one.

Thank you

Hmm it sounds to me like you may have a cracked or cold solder joint in the remote fob circuit board.

You could probably get a phone fixit place to inspect and fix the fob circuit board.

Andy, Technozen is the place to go for MG-Rover key fob and immobiliser problems and the price is remarkably low, well worth looking at his website. It is also worth frequenting the https://www.the-t-bar.com/forum/54-how-tos/25321-a-to-z-of-how-to-guides-pics-and-videos forum, lots of "how to" info and is the most visited MGF/TF forum
