1971 MG MGB GT
A friend has given me 2 lts of Castrol EP 80W-90 GL4 manual gear oil he bought by mistake. Can anyone tell me whther this is OK to use in my MGB GT rear axle please. The manual syas to use Castrol EP90 Hypoid which is alos GL4. Not sure what the differnce is.

It will be fine in our climate, i have had ep90 in the rear axle of my midget for eight years now no problems

Yes, but presumably 80w-90 is a thinner oil than EP 90 although it's still a GL4 OIL.. Would the thiner oil be ok.

80w-90 is a multigrade oil - thinner in cold weather than straight 90, but the same viscosity at summer temperatures. What's not to like?
