Solved
I am in the process of upgrading the electrics of my 72 BGT and having replaced the indicator stork I now find I have no power at the purple wire to power the headlight flash function I see from the wiring diagram that there is an inline fuse but I can’t seem to see it. Does it go to the courtesy light with a fuse in between. I thought I’d ask here before breaking my back looking behind the dash on a wild goose chase. It’s one of those cases of it working and suddenly not working now so I’d like to check the fuse first before checking the continuity.

Thank

The only schematics I could find close to your ‘72 is the 73/74 UK MGB from Advance Auto Wiring. It’s interesting that the schematic shows a side marker light circuit which I know the home market cars don’t have…..confused smiley

Regardless, the wiring for the flash-to-pass does connect to the cigar lighter which in turn gets its supply from the fused purple at the fuse box. I don’t see an inline fuse.

What schematic are you seeing an inline fuse in this circuit? Does your cigar lighter and courtesy lights function? These are on the same purple supply circuit.

Thanks for your reply Simon,in my haste I stupidly took the connector symbol to be a fuse at the dimmer switch end. I don’t have a cigar lighter, the PO put in a fog light switch in that space (another thing to be remedied). The courtesy lights are also not working. Perhaps that connector has somehow become detached somewhere….more investigation and inevitable ack crawling needed then! Oh well I tried. Thanks again. I will report back.

Edward,
You mention no courtesy lights as well; sounds like lost power on the purple circuit or somewhere on the purple circuit.

Double check the bottom fuse in the fuse block and check for good contact, check connections on the two purple wire connectors (one has two wires) on post #8.

If power is good there, start checking the purple-to-purple bullet connectors for power.

There is a plastic multi-plug at the base of the steering column for the stalk connections. Locate that plug and make sure it is well secured. Sometimes I've seen some pins back out of these multi-plugs when joining.

The other component on the purple circuit is the horns. Are they functional? If not, as Clay mentions, the likely culprit is at the fuse box and the purple connection.

Some time with a voltmeter or test lamp will find the issue. Have fun! winking smiley

Thank you for all the suggestions. I now have power. Checked the fuse. Checked the connector and now all working again.
