Greeting everyone. I need help from a fellow member with an early MGB. My 1964 had the coil mounted rather haphazardly on a bracket mounted to the right engine mount. The mechanic which I use for my large projects made a comment that it was not mounted properly. When I asked him how it should be mounted, he said that it is mounted just like on the MGA on top of the generator. Finally getting around to this project, so I double-checked in Clausager's book. There are no clear pictures of the mounting position in his engine bay pictures. However, from what I can see, it does not appear to be like my MGA's mounting.
What I need is a picture of the coil mounting on top of a GENERATOR in an early pull-handle MGB.
If anyone can provide me with any pictures of this area, I will greatly appreciate it.
Thank you in advance.

Mk1 mgb had its ignition coil mounted on a bracket, which, in turn was mounted onto the RHS motor mount, on the motor side.
The coil bracket has a right angle corner that matches the top rear corner of the motor mount.
The high tension coil nipple faced to the rear.
The coil was never mounted on the dynamo in early mgb’s.

Now some including myself say M-E can get it wrong but clicking on #21 here notes the bracket was used on 3sync cars.
PS despite my Mk1 now having an alternator and 4sync box it still has that plate with the coil mounted there.
Mk1: CKD 11/66 first registered 8/5/67; owned since 3/77. 18GB +40 balanced. Peter Burgess BVFR head. Piper 285. 123. FidanzaFW. 4synch c/r box. Lots more as I did a nut and bolt rebuild; finished 2015. Tartan Red.
GT: December '78. VW Golf guards, flush fit front and rear valances. Torana XU1 vents, frenched indicators & Mk1 rear lights. 'Worked' Rover V8 with Monsoon ECU for EFI. GM4L60E, Lokar tiptronic & Quick4 controller. Vintage Air A/C. FC IFS. CCE 4 link rear. Salisbury with Quaife. Jaguar Storm.

My ‘63 is mounted just like Marty’s. I have to say it was a bit of a jig saw puzzle putting it on during the restoration. Not sure why, but the bracket has to go on a specific way.
There’s a specific corner on the coil bracket that matches the corner of the motor mount, and that’s also where the bolt holes of the bracket and motor mount align!

A previous owner of my '67 swapped in an upright spin-on filter, and the correct coil bracket, as per Marty's picture, interfered. As a result, I have a couple extra holes on the inner fender to eliminate where the coil was .
Upon final assembly,* I intend to use the original hanging cannister filter assembly and the coil mounted @ the RH engine mount.
* car is under restoration

Gentlemen, an update: removed generator to properly mount bracket (#21 in Barrie's post and #32 in Marty's) as it was previously being held on with just one bolt and was sitting catawampus. Speaking of one bolt, that is all that was holding the engine mount on to the mounting plate underneath, so it's a good thing I started down this road. But of course it doesn't stop there. As I removed the generator to properly align the engine mount land the coil bracket, I discovered that the ear on the water pump was broken and everything was just sitting in place.
Anyway, looks like a new water pump is in the works for me. So much for a simple project!
Thank you all for your help!
