Does anyone know what this can be? I first though the previous owner had installed a hands free microphone but there are no wires underneath and it's installed with a rubber mount that stretches when I pull on it. It's not some weird MG coat hanger or something is it?

Someone on another forum suggested it might be a holder for sunglasses and that seems most likely so far as it has indentations on the side that would fit the nose clamps of the glasses. I've been wondering where to keep my sunglasses so I'll try if this works. Otherwise I'll remove it since it's not something that belongs in an MG.

GPS Speedo antenna? Small speaker or microphone?

See what the wire connects to.

Is it connected to anything on the underside?
I have no idea, but it looks thoughtfully / neatly installed and must have had a purpose.

In the second picture it appears to have a small coax cable?

I’m with Clay. Follow the cable. My guess would be a GPS antenna.

I was addicted to the hokey pokey but I turned myself around.

There's no cable attached to it. The black that looks like a cable underneath is just rubber that stretches when I lift it. Very elastic. There are no cables underneath.

Another likely solution has been suggested elsewhere. It's an old parking slip holder. Pull it up and put the paper under and it will hold it.
