Being a purist in some ways, I've always liked the old felt filters for my 68 MGB. Here's two of my favorites

To each his own ....

First thing I did was remove the original canister filter , and installed the inverted spin-on filter adapter .

I run a Purolator 1 filter . No bleed down , better filtration and considerably easier to change .

I kept the old canister assembly in case the next caretaker wants to go back to original .

My '65 has the stock upright (hanging down, bolt at the bottom) canister with felt filter, been no problem for 59 years. I change my oil once a year which is about a thousand miles, so it is plenty of protection for the engine.

There's nothing wrong with a canister filter, but most people don't use those felt elements anymore. They tend to lose fibers, which find their way through the bearings. A better idea is to use a paper element.
