Interesting that the e-mail I received today makes no mention of the acquisition of both companies by Radial ... just that they are joining forces.
No doubt there will be some rationalisation ... Looking at their profile, it does seem though that Radial might bring something to the table that adds value ...
hopefully to its customers by leveraging its access to development & manufacturing resources if that can be realistically accessed.
You never know, it may result in better products.... its the short-term where there is always some pain.
I'll still be buying from SF.

In case you didn't get it ...this is the e-mail ... no mention of Radial ... why would they not mention that?

In the UK, it has been announced that Moss Motors, Moss Europe and Rimmer Bros. are forming a 'partnership', whatever that means ! . I tend not to use either Moss or Rimmers if I can help it - I think their prices and quality are not as good as elsewhere.

Hi Peter
Yes, that my point... they are announcing it as a partnership but the truth is that both have been purchased by a Private Equity firm. 'Radial Equity'
Partnership whether they really wanted it or not.

The Press Release has:
'About Moss Motors' and 'About Rimmer Bros' but no mention of 'Radial' Why wouldn't they mention that?

From my experience Private Equity acquisition can be bad if they strip all down to bare bones to show better numbers to another potential acquirer.
Not sure about this one though ... they don't look so bad at face value as they seem to have something of a strategy that might go beyond that.
As mentioned though, I will continue to support SF as I've had great support from Cecelia.
Cheers
Greg

Cool! I hope this doesn't have a teething phase. It seems that as of late, a few of the smaller specialty shops are closed or owners retiring, leaving Moss/Rimmer. I've always liked Moss because of how easy it is to order from them, and because their product line is viewable online. I suspect they'll be the last man standing in a decade

Pic below shows what Radial Equity owns. Private equity can be equated to an old style wringer washer as they will squeeze out every penny they can from the supply chain and into their pockets. That's the business model and that means closing down unprofitable markets; narrowing inventory and doing everything they can to lower costs. Not a bad thing generally, but in the consumer world, its all about customer experience. Hopefully they will use a scalpel vs. a machete. And hey, maybe they will improve product quality; one can always dream.

Another PE disaster coming I’m sure.., as if Moss wasn’t getting bad enough as it was.

Have bought a couple things from Rimmer Bros. Really nice fit on the fenders I bought for the MGC.

I’ll stick with Cecelia for my A parts.

If Moss (or other British car parts folks) doesn't diversify, they may dinosaur themselves into oblivion. In a few decades (or now), all the old folks like us will be handing down our MGs, Triumphs, AH's, etc to our kids, and mine flat refuses to own something so "old and gas powered." <eye roll> Honestly, I think he made love to a freaky little Nissan Leaf once.

If he's any indication, supplying parts for a shrinking user base won't be profitable, and we'll be relying on people our age who want to retire, or just pass over the rainbow. I hope the other vendors out there who don't advertise well (or at all) on the net take heed.

That's what I read as well.... Moss and Rimmer joining forces to 'better" provide parts to the vintage car trade. Will be interesting to see what Radial, the equity group does with them.

I spent many years around the PE sector before I left and bought my own place.

I can tell you all they are interested in is cash… how much they can take out and how much they get when they flip it to another PE company in their prescribed time line or “exit target”.

Anything else they do is just to make it look better… lipstick on a pig.

I remember when Al Moss sold Moss to the current owners.

I’ll continue to buy my parts from Cecelia. They are always the best replacement fit at a good price. And her MG knowledge is greater than that of all the Moss people combined.
