Solved
I am not an Mgc guy, but this C roadster has been parked OUTSIDE at this location in Mebane NC (a repair/body shop with plenty of inside space imo) for at least 5 years that I know of.
The inspection sticker says 2001, and it is an automatic, but what a shame still.

I shake my head everytime that I am in the area and see it sitting there just wasting away.

Heartbreaking! Some of us would kill for a car like that.

He’s in NC. You’re in NC. I don’t know why you’re not taking a trailer to haul it back!

It’s probably not for sale. Been sitting outside for 5 years (probably much longer than that). I would buy it.

The fact that it’s been sitting outside five years means the shop owner probably has a little interest in doing anything with it. No harm in asking. That would be one hell of a restoration and one hell of a car when finished.

After visiting Pete on 4-29-24, He told me about this car being an Automatic and how long it has been sitting, I became very intrigued.
Pete was gracious enough to share its location & stories of no help in finding owner.

So, 2 days later, 5-1-24 On my way to Charlotte, I dropped by the location. Surveyed cars condition, went into MDJ Body Shop to investigate possible contact information.
After a very nice conversation with Joel, He gladly gave me the owners contact number while Stating "The Owner is a very Nice Lady and She wants a lot of money for this car".

So, getting my nerve up I called the number, Owner answered, Quoted me a price that I agreed to and Owner mentioned to come back Monday 5-6-24 to finalize deal and load car.

So 7 hours later of changing blown out 20 year old tires on wires, jacking finagling & hand winching car onto trailer, $$ Paid, 3.5 hrs drive @<55mph home to ENC, I arrived safely w/ car intact at 11:45PM last night.

Thanks for the lead Pete!

When diagnosing issues related to running and stalling, always check to see if you have gas in the tank first.

Good deal Al!
I am glad that you tracked the owner down so easily and pulled the trigger on it!

Oh, and here are a few pictures that I am sure all of the interested folks really wanted to see, from when you finally got the hood release to open.

Good luck with it, and keep me posted on the progress.

Make sure to hang on to the water pump and oil pump since new ones don't exist. There are a few folks in the world that rebuild the water pumps for $300.00+, but unfortunately we are losing them due to old age, folks like Robert Kirk (RIP). While you cannot buy a new oil pump you can buy a new geo-rotor rebuild kit, but they are 250.00+, when you compare that to a MGB oil pump new gear rebuild set at 25.00 it seems ridiculous, but that is the MGC for you. I admire your gumption Alfred, just be ready to invent new curse words, LOL. smileys with beer

No doubt, Nothing cheaper to own mechanically than an MGB 1.8L.

I have always equated the "C" parts prices to being similar to owning an Austin Healey 3000, which now might be cheaper to own.

Never tried rebuilding a MG H2O pump, guess there is a first time smiling bouncing smileyconfused smiley for everything.

OK I just gotta say it.
IF it turns out that the engine is going to be prohibitively expensive to rebuild or is so far gone that it would be basically a lost cause, I always have felt that an MGC with a flathead Ford engine would be totally badass.

Wearing my Nomex, flame ahead but can you just picture a set of Edelbrock finned aluminum heads with polished acorn nuts nestled down in that engine bay? It'd handle the weight and yeah the HP increase wouldn't be much but the torque output would be much better. The exhaust would be very simple, I think there is a bellhousing for the T5 and the BW35 auto may have been used behind a FHF. The rest would just be standard stuff. If I ran across a car like that I'd be shopping for a rebuildable FHF for sure.

There is no question that at the shows it'd be the major attraction once they heard it come in and the hood was raised. Ain't nothin' else sounds like a FHF.

The car is going to be fun. Probably not many MGC w/AT around. Personally I have never seen one on the road. I wish you and your new car well. I wanna see it when you get it going.
