Hello all - I recently ran across a very interesting photograph in a shop that I had to buy for several reasons - it was definitely from the late 1930's, and it's in full colour. My research has been fun. It turns out it was a colour plate done for a magazine, and it shows an MG TA with the above-referenced reg #, and it is parked forward of and just about under the cockpit of an Air France passenger plane, on (presumably) it's inaugural arrival at Croydon Airfield (London). The driver is a rather attractive young woman wearing a beret.

Just wondering if DXU 198 might still be alive?

Cheers,

Tom

A bit of plane history gives us a hint on the car. It is a Bloch MB.220, a 16-passenger version of the MB.210 bomber. The prototype's maiden flight was in June, 1936, and the first commercial Air France trip was between Le Bourget and Croyden in March, 1938. My guess is that the image relates to that visit. Each of the 16 production aoircraft was named after a region in France, hence "Saintonge" on this plane.

All 17 were requisitioned by the French Air Force in September, 1939 when war was declared, and a few planes continued in service until 1950.

Thanks, Tom L. That's pretty much the summary of what I was able to find. The photo doesn't seem to be a reprint either. The things that survive for decades in the bottom of someone's drawer always amazes me.
