I am about to put new front brake calipers on my MG Midget race car The question is, can I use the calipers from an MGB will they bolt up to the midget and will they work with 13" wheels?

The old school big brake kit (scca approved!) was to use spitfire rotors with MGB calipers. There is a spacer needed (or an aluminum hub). I think Rick Haynes may have all this stuff.

But yes, done right it will fit under a 13" wheel.

Thanks for that post Kendall. Yep eventually this was allowed on all SCCA Spridget reagradless of class and a good many racing vintage has done this as well. The only time I had raced a a Spridget with the stock Spridget brakes was the Huffaker H production Bugeye because at that time they were not allowed the "big brake" upgrade, and that was what I was used to in F production. The HP Bugeye in the first races I did with it, I ran out of brakes late in the race, and later corrected that with better pads and better brake ducting, and just using them a bit different. With that said the "big brake" upgrade is for sure an improvement for us that have driven both set-uos. Now mind you a SCCA car due to it's slick tires is good 5+ seconds a lap faster the equal vintage car on vintage tires, so you're going faster and better brakes make the car stop better. Every vintage Spridget race car I have ever worked on had the "big brake" conversion already, and then there was one I installed on another vintage car years ago.

Yep, it is more than a caliper change, it takes the Spitfire rotor, a custom made hub adapter and the MGB caliper, as Kendall mentioned.

If you're interested in the big brake kit, let me know, I have one available, willing to make a deal versus the "new" price.
