I have a 1978 Midget. I have long legs. How do I get more distance from driver's seat to pedals? How can I move the seat back further, than the furthest distance?

Thank You,

Dropping in a thin pair of racing seats is thr only option and might gain you an inch at most.. Otherwise you're looking at a major body reconfiguration. The trunk bulkhead that supports the car and gives clearance to the rear axle prevents moving seat further back. The pedal box is up to the front axle, nowhere to go.

A relatively easy way to get an extra inch or two of room for your right leg is to modify the throttle pedal assembly. The factory rod is bent to bring the face of the pedal roughly up to the same plane as the brake & clutch. You can cut a piece out of the rod to move the face of the peal nearly 2 inches closer to the firewall.

The only downside to doing this is that it makes heel-toeing pretty much impossible. That's if you're into that driving style though.

An even easier way is to install seats from an earlier Spridget. The seat backs on a '78 Midget are 4-5 inches thick. The seat backs on a '58 to '63 Sprite or Midget are only an inch or so thick.

or lower the footwelfloor like Peter Renn did on his midget?

Ive changed dash by making one myself(with help from friends) and created more room for my knees (dash underside is higher now then before)

If you want to look at earlier seats and don’t mind paying for the pleasure, look at the offerings of Sports&Classics.
They have a lot of nice stuff.

I agree Layne. They have been around forever and always offered quality, IMO.

John,

Just an FYI-
Leg length can very for a given height.
Some folks have a short torso and long legs, others have a long torso and short legs, yet they can both be the same height.
A better way to compare would be inseam length.

Pete

In 1974 when I was 18, I passed on buying a running and driving 1966 Jaguar E-Type coupe for $1,500, which is what they were selling for at the time.
Fifty years later, I'm still kicking myself...

Pete, that is a great point. I have read random threads here and other places that just compare people who are longer in the leg vs torso.

I am 6"2, have a 32" inseam, and a 39" waist.

John,

I'm 5' 9", and I also have a 32" inseam. (32" waist.) My '71 Midget is a perfect fit for me, leg-wise.
I have the seat all the way back but for one additional position, so your legs should fit into a Midget no problem

Thanks gents. Still deciding on the budget for a Midget/Sprite. My wife is pregnant and at our first important they weren't able to tell if it was twins or not.... I might have to budget for a minivan as well.

Sorry for highjacking the thread.

John appears to be my Texas twin. I have to shuffle a little to get in, but I fit fine once I'm in there.

Admittedly, it's much easier ingress/egress with the top down
Luckily, I've not had an undignified entry/exit in sight of others.
