The photos of the car in that article make it look much better than the many that I've seen in the various books in my collection. Still, the wheels are too small and the car appears to sit too high - at least as high as a stock RB MGB. Of course this was a prototype so maybe those things could have been improved if it had gone into production.

Although it was aimed at replacing both the Midget and the MGB, I always thought it made more sense as a Midget replacement - taking that car a bit more upmarket. As it is shown, I doubt most MGB owners would have considered it a proper replacement for the MGB. A slightly more upmarket MGB would have been nice, but they couldn't afford to develop both - making a single replacement for both apparently the only option that was seriously considered.

IMHO, the Mini based prototype would have been a market disaster. MG people tend to be a pretty conservative bunch, so a tiny FWD sports car had no chance for success.

The design never did a lot for me. Like Joe says, tiny wheels don't look right. It reminds me too much of a Fiat. Interestingly, the small wheels and rear design are a bit like the much later Jensen Healey.

I think what the MGB really needed was a more modern engine rather than a new body design. 150 horse power and more modern top and suspension would have given the car a real boost. The looks are classic.

I don't care for the mash-up of every Italian design introduced in the mid sixties. It's one of those designs which have a lot of ideas which aren't melded together in total.
