Solved
Hi ,

I'm in the process of swapping the head gasket , combined with the install of ARP studs.

1 thing is not clear to me concerning the ARP delivered lubricant and where to apply ...

Should i apply the ARP lubricant to the ( 2 ) surfaces of the hardened washer ? or do these 2 mating surfaces have to be "dry" ?

Follow the instructions that come with the studs - from memory:

Clean and if necessary re-tap the threaded socket.
Apply line to the stud threads and insert hand tight.
Fit the head and tighten nut to specified torque in the order specified.

Every ARP bolt set I have ever used had the specific instructions with it. Torque settings have some level of debate on whether it’s the ARP setting or workshop manual - but it’s all pretty simple.

Yes, apply lube to the mating surfaces of the washers.

When fitting new studs check the top threads on the block a light countersink may be required. The lube is to give accurate torque figures by removing frictional interference. Do not use aluminium rocker pedestals they expand 2 thou more than steel and have been known to fracture.
