Had a mess of them back in 73 to 82, nobody knew how to keep the auto trans working & we could buy them for $50 to $100. I could pull the engine/trans. assembly in 40 min. rebuild the gearbox & have it back on the road that day! Great ride of a car & would go around a turn!!! I would do 25-29 mpg all day on regular. Mom had a 69 & LOVED it & my 2 Sisters learned to drive with the A.A. & had 250k on it when we said go buy to it. We still have a 70, 4 speed, in the family.

Oh wow. I never owned one but thought it would be a cool substitute from trying to buy a classic mini. Thanks for the insight. Hope I find one soon.

Let me know if you're interested. Car is ready to go, about 10k mile since restoration 20 years ago.
Has a cracked windshield and I'm in the process of locating one.

Gonna be tough to match that BaT price from 2018. More recently, an Austin America was bid up to $9k and didn’t meet reserve:

Not true...if I wanted to pay BAT prices then I wouldn't be posting here. I Would be bidding over there. But if you look you will still find reasonably priced cars are out there for sale. Like this guy here have been trying to sell this one for $6k for a while but still not sold. I dont like that green otherwise i would be all over it.

Ok yes, I agree, $6000 is completely do-able. Based on BaT link I thought you were implying something in the 3’s!

I understand the appeal of value-for-money. For the longest time I was buying any good XJS for under $4k, and now they are easily $10k… and somehow they aren’t as appealing at that price.

XJS are scary! I dont know why anyone would find the v12 attractive. Certainly the design aspect of the body/interior is very sexy.

Hmmmm......

And I do admit, most people look at that motor and have no idea what they're looking at, some think it's a straight 6!
