Smart buyer. Only thing I take against him is that he divulged how he is going to pay for it. Often times dealerships are reluctant to get paid in cash since they make a cut on financing. But nowadays, this may actually work in the buyer's favour because dealer lots are full of stock. But good negotiator nonetheless.

My 1958 MGA is not a car, it's a CAREER..!! ... angry smiley angry smiley

Too funny! It's always been this way. The sales person starts high and has to go see the manager. More than likely they just go have a drink or a smoke. Then later the manager has to go see the higher ups. I've walked away from two different deals when they wouldn't meet my price.

At the big dealerships these sales people go to school to learn how to negotiate. They are very good at applying soft pressure tactics. They act interested in you. What you do for a living, what are your hobbies, and so on. They want you to think they like you and want to be friends. When all they really want is a sale at the highest possible price. Can't blame them, it's how they make a living.

I don't buy a lot of new cars, but when I bought my pickup I used Costco. You go to Costco and get a list of the dealers and who to contact. When you go to that person, they show you the vehicle and you pay the fleet price. No hassle, no salesman BS.

Find the car you want.
Talk to the sales manager.
As what he wants to cash out of the car you want, you will walk in the door with a certified check in hand.

He'll ask if you are a dealership.

Nope, this is for me, but if I need to walk in as a dealer I want invoice less all incentives.

You'd be surprised at the price...

Bought Volvos, Buicks, Fords, Checys, WV, Renault, a Yugo, and even a Porsche exactly like this.

Always get a stupid low price, or go to a different dealer. Sometimes the manager doesn't want to give up the car because he knows he can get better than sticker for it... short supply vehicles like special edition Mustangs, Camaros, Corvettes for instance.
