Browsing the forum threads I see a number where Magnette owners have been unable to fit a modern hi-torque starter motor, usually due to the steering column being in the way on RHD models.
I have fitted them very succesfully to my MGA, MGB and Midget so would ideally like one on my ZA too but I don't want to risk buying one and then finding that it wont fit.
Has any owner of a RHD Magnette successfully installed a high-torque starter motor and, if so, what make and model of starter is it and were there any issues fitting it ?
Thanks.

Roger

Hi Roger,
Starter motors and Clocking.
I have fitted a few to Magnettes, the one that I sold to Kent Edlund, had a Wosp high torque starter, I was able to rotate it as it was drilled to facilitate that.
My recent one was not a Wosp one but was for a MGB 3 bearing engine, and I managed to (carefully) orientate it and drill and tap to accept a different position to clear any obstruction.
I believe the one from Wosp is part number LMS944 for the Magnette, expensive though, about £260!
Hope this helps,
Cheers
Muzz

Many thanks for that info, Muzz.
I'll check out the Wosp LMS944.

Yes, they are all quite expensive but I find the difference they make to cranking especially on a cold frosty morning after the car has stood out all night in a hotel car park makes the expense all worthwhile. In fact it's often the difference between starting on the button and maybe not starting at all !
Cheers,
Roger
