Solved
73 GT acquired in November 2023, combo professional/DIY resto. Looks good, runs good, stops good...all in all very happy with my retirement toy. Heavy rains yesterday caused drains to back up in garages so unfortunately had to get cars out to address the situation. Hated getting the GT out in heavy rain but no choice. Drains addressed, pulled all back in, checked the GT since it has never seen rain or a hose for that matter. Discovered hatch area wet from leakage in the upper right corner of the hatch and a little wet same area on left. This showed up around the shoulder belt mounting area straight down to the hatch area floor. Been searching here, looking on line and am confused as to what the inner and outer seals refer to. Does one go on the hatch itself (which is already there) and another on the body (which is not there). Are they both on the hatch door? Also been looking for info or tutorial on how these should be installed as I want to address this problem even though I plan to keep the GT from rain and hose washes as much as possible.

Any insight much appreciated.

Contact Martin MacGregor by phone for advice and parts: MacGregor . Leave a voicemail or email with your phone number, and be patient. He will call back. His seals fit, and will arrive ina pizza box.

X2 On getting Martin’s seals. They are a bit more expensive but worth every penny. And he’s a delightful chap that has a wealth of knowledge.

I was addicted to the hokey pokey but I turned myself around.

There are two seals on the hatch. None on the body...

After working & DRIVING MGs, just about every day & yes even in the rain!!!!, the OLNLY seal I will use on the rear hatch will be from Martin!!!! His seals fit, the aftermarket/China I will not even try for I am sure it won't fit & it is a PITA to pull the rear hatch to change the seal twice

Martin sells an inner seal that snaps onto the flange on the body of the boot or the hatch and it works great.

I'd love to speak with him and purchase but what's the secret to contact? Emails come right back to me as undeliverable and phone rings and rings until "enter remote code, message box is full" prompt. Imagine I'll just keep on trying or just purchase from Just MGB as they are very responsive and have oem material as well, though speaking to someone will be of value to me.

Thank you for that John... I had no idea.

I bought my seals from English Parts quite a few years ago. Fit just fine and don't leak. Just sayin'
