I just bought a pair of the neoprene seals for my oil pan. One for the front and a different one for the rear. The front one extends about an eighth of an inch above the pan which I suppose will compress to even when mounted on my engine. The one for the rear sticks up about a quarter of an inch on both ends when pushed down. My inclination is to trim it to have the same length above the pan as the front one. Is that a correct thing to do?? I'd appreciate any thoughts. Is the 1275 pan different than my 948?

Yes, the rear seal for the 1275 oil pans are different from the 948 and 1098 oil pan seals. All three oil pans share the same front seal size. The 948 and 1098 rear seals are the same as the front. However, the 1275 rear oil pan seal is wider/longer because the rear main bearing cap is wider across the sealing area arc than its small-bore counterpart.
