These graphics have starred popping up in my FB feed after I watched on life expectancy.
This one surprised me initially but towards the end blew me away.
Not really surprised by the outcome but surprised by the speed of the outcome.

My wife and I live on an Island and we are towards the end of the line on our power grid. We get frequent power outages and we go to a generator system.
Running off the generator makes me understand where the electricity goes.
For example we don’t adjust our waking hours to maximize natural daylight. The water heater runs continuously. Along with a refrigerator and separate freezer.
Since we have solar panels and only pay a power bill two or three months of the year we make no effort to turn off lights or battery chargers that draw power.

And China generates most of that electricity from COAL. If global warming is real there is the place to start. Otherwise you are just spending yourself into oblivion. If we are a global market the economic advantage of coal and almost slave labor will destroy the rest of the world.
We can’t compete with solar and wind. The idea is ridiculous. If we destroy our economies fighting “global warming” we will end up slaves to China.
We need energy independence. We need to fight China for real. They are waging economic warfare and are gaining while we are losing.

Great idea.eye rolling smiley Fighting the Chinese should be interesting, if short, judging by recent performance.

Just to be certain of your meaning, does one of these fit? If so, which?

"A person having, thought to have, or professing superior intellect or talent, power, wealth, or membership in the upper echelons of society.

A person who believes in the superiority of an elitist class."

Given the choice of fighting the Chinese or installing solar panels for energy independence I will go for solar panels. The Chinese know Kung Fu and would tear me up.

This is interesting. Of course it isn't energy consumption per capita, just electricity.

Harbor Freight?
I had the choice between California panels, Canadian panels and Chinese.
I paid about $100 extra (for all 24) to get the domestic made panels.
The inverter was made in Israel.

I purchased these panels directly from two different USA companies. When I got the panels the two brands had "Made in China" in small print at the bottom of the spec sheets. Guess I was in to big a hurry and didn't dig deep enough.

I think he means contemptuous New York billionaire types, raised with a silver spoon up their not inconsiderable butts, who don't pay their workers / suppliers. Down with the elite!

At this point I'm starting to think there won't be a clarification of Steve N's comment about elitists destroying our way of life.

"A person having, thought to have, or professing superior intellect or talent, power, wealth, or membership in the upper echelons of society."

It's hard to imagine anyone influencing our society politically, socially, or economically who doesn't tick one or two of the above boxes, regardless of their leanings.

"A person who believes in the superiority of an elitist class."

As far as the above, it's pretty vague and I'm not sure how the belief fits into the equation.

If there are other definitions of elitist I'm all ears. I'm looking for definitions, not particular individuals to demonize or praise.

Interesting if not unexpected replies. I didn’t mean to be absent from this conversation I just had other stuff going on.
It wasn’t meant to be a “toss-and-run” topic, I was just surprised at the speed that China caught up and raced away with the leader place in this metric.
It would, however, be interesting to see what is happening here in the very recent times given that China is going through a rapid decline in economic growth.
Continue.
