For many years I have used a 20/40W oil in my 1954 MG TF 1500 which has probably done 50,000 miles and holds 55psi when hot and revving. However, a few months ago I read that a more suitable oil was a 20/30W. Does any member have an educated view on this subject please. Martin

With the weather in your area 20-50 has always been recommended, at least from my experience from working on these cars since the 1960"s!

Many posts have been made regarding oil in our old MGs.

The general consensus is a 20W/50. Either Valvoline VR 50 or Castrol. Both have additional zinc to protect the engines that is not fould in other modern oils. Castrol 20W/50 has a specially formulated version for cars of our vintage.
