Chris Cooper and I are discussing when the engine tag on the TD changed from on the bell housing, to on the block.
So far, we know that it was on the bell housing as late as TD 1250. I know it was on the block for TD 4139.
Anyone have a TD newer than 1250 that has the tag on the bell housing?

According to Neil Cairns:
"At SC/15405 and TD/2985 the oil filter type changed, and its support straps made stronger.
The strap fixing bolts to the block were increased from two to three, and the straps made
wider, one inch to one & half inches. Anti-crush ends were fitted to stop overtightening and
crushing the filter canister. The pattern for this casting changed to accommodate the three
bolts, and hence the casting number changed to 24445. At this time the engine number plate
moved from the bell housing to the offside front of the cylinder block, onto a ready cast in
raised portion. See Archaeology."

Bruce/Chris - is there some concern that Neil Cairns has an error in his statement below re: change at TD/2985?

Jeff: I think we are good. At first I thought the car number was an engine number because I had another reference to the oil filter change with that as the engine number. I think that was probably an error.
